We strive to enhance the quality of life of those who live, work, play and visit within the boundaries of our ambulance service area by providing the highest quality and most timely emergency medical care possible.

Gouverneur Rescue Squad was founded in 1966 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) agency. In the beginning, we were only able to provide Basic Life Support, and ran a one ambulance fleet. Over the years our organization has dramatically grown.

Since then, we now have the capabilities of providing 24/7 Advanced Life Support, along with Basic Life Support. Our fleet has grown from one ambulance, to four fully equipped Advanced Life Support ambulances. We are staffed around the clock, 365 days per year using a combination of both paid staff and volunteers. We serve a population of 17,788 through total of 744.3 square miles in southern St. Lawrence County. 

Not only do we provide Out-of-Hospital Healthcare Services for 9-1-1 calls, but upon a hospital request we are able to provide inter-facility transports to a hospital of a higher level of care and provide Basic or Advanced Life Support Services while transporting patients, We are also proud to include the capabilities of our specially trained Paramedics with patients requiring specialty medications, administration of blood transfusions or airway management with a mechanical ventilator during transport.
